One Room Challenge – Week 2 Prepping Walls, Adding Wainscotting, and a New Door

One Room Challenge – Week 2 Prepping Walls, Adding Wainscotting, and a New Door

Let’s chat about the Berrybrier kitchen some more! It’s a big project and it started out crazy. Legit, no one wanted to cook in here kind of crazy. You can see more of the before pictures as well as the plan for the kitchen in last week’s post.

6 No-Fail Whole House Paint Color Palettes

6 No-Fail Whole House Paint Color Palettes

I thought I’d continue today on the theme of paint! If you’ve been reading along I’ve already covered the Berrybrier whole house paint color palette and how to pick paint colors. I’ve got something juicy today: a round up of 5 paint color palettes that will work in nearly every home! Picking paint can be daunting, so I’m taking the guess work out of it for you. I headed to my local Benjamin Moore paint store (Dick’s Color Center for you Portland locals) and pulled some fun color palettes that will work for anyone. I’ve included some descriptions of where I can envision each color palette, but these are just jumping off points, each palette would work in any style home! And, if you want to dive into diagnosing your own personal design style, check out this post here!

Finally, Finally, Finally the Main Bathroom Reveal!

Finally, Finally, Finally the Main Bathroom Reveal!

Boy, oh boy, has this post been long overdue. I’ve been itching to share final reveal shots of the the main bathroom at Berrybrier. If you follow me on instagram (see the sidebar! Or the very bottom of the page if you’re on your phone) you may have seen my instastories a few weeks ago which heavily featured finishing off the bathroom. There were a few little tasks like hanging the hand towel ring, spray painting the toilet paper stand, and making the shower curtain that I needed motivation to work on. So thanks to all those who messaged me for the encouragement! Now… shall we check out some shots of the room?

Celebrating 2 Years at Berrybrier!

Celebrating 2 Years at Berrybrier!

This past weekend (August 17th to be exact!) was my second year at Berrybrier! I cannot believe how time has flown and how much things have changed around here. I’ve been so busy renovating this house for so long, that when things were mostly finished, I took a two and a half month solo road trip across the US and back. It was a much needed break from the breakneck DIY projects and general pace of life. I’ve struggled a bit to get back into my regular blog schedule since my return, but I’m trying to get more focused. Today, though, I just want to take a look at where things started and see where things are now!

“Whitewashing” A Stone Fireplace with Grey Paint

“Whitewashing” A Stone Fireplace with Grey Paint

When I first moved into Berrybrier I knew something would need to change on the Living Room fireplace. It was a stacked stone fireplace and clearly added onto the house in the 60s or 70s. The center was slightly blackened with soot and the stones were wildly different color tones, varying from yellow to red to brown. I did not like it at all and it felt like a jarring mid-century accent in the midst of the turn of the century house.

The Order I Paint Walls, Ceiling, & Trim and the Refreshed Master Bedroom

The Order I Paint Walls, Ceiling, & Trim and the Refreshed Master Bedroom

When I first moved into Berrybrier, the Master Bedroom was one of the nicest looking rooms in the house. Thus, I filled it with all the junk I wanted out of other spaces (think unopened moving boxes) and largely ignored it.

You guys, this room, my room at Berrybrier, the “Master Bedroom” looked absolutely horrendous for over a year and 4 months. Yup, it took me over a year of doing all the other 20 million projects at Berrybrier, before I thought, “You know what would help you relax and feel more at home in this house? If you actually fixed up your bedroom so you enjoyed being in there.” If I could go back in time, I would have fixed up my bedroom first.

One Room Challenge: Week 6 – Final Master Bathroom Reveal

One Room Challenge: Week 6 – Final Master Bathroom Reveal

It’s done — whoopee!! — get ready for the reveal!!! Welcome back to the One Room Challenge: Berrybrier Master Bathroom Edition. I finally have a place to get ready that doesn’t make me concerned for my personal health and it looks so good! First, let’s remind you where we all started here.

The Master Bathroom at Berrybrier is — like most Master Bathrooms — right off the Master Bedroom. It’s an awesome addition that is so great to have, even if it is only a half bathroom. When I bought the house, it was right there, peeking out into the periwinkle and red Master Bedroom.

One Room Challenge: Week 5 – Installing Plumbing Fixtures and Accessories

One Room Challenge: Week 5 – Installing Plumbing Fixtures and Accessories

Once my tiny little master bathroom was painted and tiled I could not be any more excited to start getting my plumbing and accessory fixtures installed into the room! The space was really starting to look like I’d envisioned when I first laid out my mood board.
