I had the pleasure last week to attend Kush Rugs‘ Resource Portland event. The team at Kush invited me to join a number of designers from mainly outside of Portland as they toured and met with a number of Portland, Oregon based product design companies. It was an amazing day filled with so many wonderful people! I learned so much about the various companies Kush chose to feature and today I’m going to share the highlights of the day with you!

It’s no secret I’m no white walls / white trim girl. I’m all about bold design and colorful spaces. I’m a traditionalist, a grandmillenial, a modern Victorian. Berrybrier absolutely reflects this and I wanted to to share the whole house palette today so you can see how — even though my house may read as colorful — the limited color palette unifies each room to the others.

Let’s talk about paper towels. Raise your hand if you know where they come from. Trees. Everyone answered trees there, right? Right?! Well… here’s something that surprises so many Americans. You don’t actually need paper towels. I know! I know! It’s gonna be okay, I promise, this is not the apocalypse!
So I actually grew up never using paper towels. We had sponges and dishtowels that cleaned up all the kitchen messes and used rags for all the other messes. As I got older I eventually realized how disturbing this was to most Americans. It wasn’t all that rare for people to say things such as, “You don’t use paper towels? Such a dirty hippie!” or “How inconvenient, you must like making your life more difficult!” This happened regularly! It was like we offended people, by having a different lifestyle choice. Isn’t it funny how people take differences as insult? We certainly weren’t trying to convince anyone to change their own ways, we just simply said, “Oh we don’t have those,” when people asked for a paper towel at our house and handed them a sponge / dishtowel / rag depending on their need.

The Entry Way at Berrybrier is small, tucked into the corner of the front house addition between the porch and dining room. Because Portland is infamous for it’s rainy season, this little entry needs to work overtime to provide plenty of storage and a place for us to remove our boots. Of course, much like the living room, the entry has evolved a bit since I first moved here.

I wanted something really special for the shower curtain in the Main Bathroom at Berrybrier. I hoped for something that would make a bold and colorful statement and as I was hunting for inspiration for the whole bathroom, I kept falling in love with bold, oversized florals. They made an appearance in a lot of wallpapered spaces — and we all know how much I adore wallpaper! Just look at this bathroom below. Stunning! It’s the perfect mix of Victorian and modern. I am obsessed!

Boy, oh boy, has this post been long overdue. I’ve been itching to share final reveal shots of the the main bathroom at Berrybrier. If you follow me on instagram (see the sidebar! Or the very bottom of the page if you’re on your phone) you may have seen my instastories a few weeks ago which heavily featured finishing off the bathroom. There were a few little tasks like hanging the hand towel ring, spray painting the toilet paper stand, and making the shower curtain that I needed motivation to work on. I love wallpaper and wallpaper is back! The design world is really blowing up with different wallpaper designs lately. It makes me so happy, because nothing can make a statement like wallpaper.
